When Turning Point Centers signed up for Vista in January 2019, they did so primarily because Vista offered an easy, turnkey way to comply with the Joint Commission’s Outcomes Measure requirement. Here’s what their CEO says about that long-ago decision:

According to our recent Delivering Recovery discussion, here are some of the biggest benefits TPC has received from using Vista:

  1. Vista has improved the efficacy of TPC’s treatment.  Early on, their team realized:

"Patients will tell Vista things they won't tell us"

To take full advantage of this, TPC decided to have patients submit their weekly update surveys early in the week so they could focus that week’s treatment on the specific issues Vista identified that the patient was struggling with:

  1. As a result of systematically measuring their outcomes, TPC was able to enter into value-based agreements with payers and earn substantial year-end bonuses.  Walking into the contracting conversations with outcomes data put them head and shoulders above the competition:

Additionally, because they were consistently tracking their outcomes, TPC was able to deliver HEDIS measures that were two to three times better than their competitors!

  1. Sharing aggregated results with the clinical team has led to continual improvement.   Vista’s annual reports contain multiple comparisons across locations and/or levels of care.  Simply sharing comparisons such as these with the people doing the work motivates them to draw their own conclusions and figure out ways to improve:

Treatment Completion by Program
  1. Vista identifies the clinicians who are truly doing a stellar job helping their patients recover. As Chris points out, the most effective clinicians aren’t always who you think they’re going to be.  He shared the story of a clinician he had thought of as a B player because his documentation was often late and occasionally lackluster.  But when he received Vista’s Clinical Effectiveness Report, Chris could see that this clinician was truly exceptional at what matters most -- building strong therapeutic alliances with his patients and helping them get well:

How Patients Rated their Relationship with Their Clinician

With this insight, Chris shifted his focus to figuring out ways to better support this clinician and others who were struggling with documentation.
